One January morning, my wife and I were startled awake by the sound of dynamite blasting. That was how we first learned that 103 new homes were being built right across the street from us on Moncrief Avenue. It was a major wake-up call. Instead of standing by, I teamed up with our neighbors to take action. Together, we worked to encourage our Commissioners to accept $500,000 in developer-funded infrastructure improvements to address traffic and safety concerns. Unfortunately, our efforts so far have fallen on deaf ears. This process showed me firsthand that the citizens of Goodlettsville are not being informed or heard to the extent that we deserve. I am running to change that, and to ensure our community always has a voice.
First responder capability in Goodlettsville must continue to operate at the highest level. However, citizens need to be heard on policy issues such as those dealing with surveillance and personal privacy.
As our City is only 12 miles from Nashville we know that growth and change are going to happen. However, Goodlettsville must grow in such a way that does not leave current residents "holding the bag" for infrastructure, traffic, and safety costs caused by the growth. To the extent allowable, we must assure that "growth pays for growth."
Small businesses are the engine driving Goodlettsville's charm and tourism. As a Commissioner I will work to develop and support policies that helps to promote and sustain business with fewer than 50 employees and revenue of less than $5 million.
As Commissioner I will work tirelessly to avoid the need for tax increases.
